Shearing in the Morning at Thames Farm

Bob, Amy, and Al, the Shearer

My great grandmother's surname was Shearer and, as I watched the shearer wrestling with the sheep at Thames Farm, I wondered what my ancestor was like, the one whose profession gave him his surname.

Ther very first "Shearer" that was a root of my family tree somewhere back in the mists of time surely used wickedly sharp shears instead of the buzzing electric clippers that Al used to cut the wool mats from the complaining and squirming ewes in the little shed where we were standing.

See the blood on Al's sleeve? That's HIS.....shearing is hazardous work.

Amy bringing another sheep to Al, who's cleaning his clippers.

Happy sheep with their summer hair cuts!

Amy and Kent have a beautiful farm and love visitors. They have a huge garden every year, so you can buy seasonal produce there, as well as pasture raised pork, chicken, and lamb. They use a humane USDA processor and I can personally vouch that the meat is the most superior quality. Of course, that's what you get when you have a farm full of happy, healthy animals! Check out their website HERE.
